Question: My daughter Is 4 years old and has always had a hard time getting rid of a cough after a cold - we're talking a month before it goes away after she's all better otherwise. Is there any test that can be done to determine if it is in fact asthma?

DR.PAUL: Testing for asthma exists, but cannot be performed on children less than 8 years of age. The challenge we have is that most children develop asthma during the first few years of life and so we have to rely solely on symptoms and the definition of asthma.
